We are taking the first steps to achieve that goal. Safety must underpin everything we do - it must be deeply embedded in our culture. This will not be achieved by merely making safety an objective of Airservices Australia - even the first objective. Our conclusion is that our commitment to safety must be uncompromising. The primacy of safety is another factor considered by the new Board. It also includes Australians in their human dimension, as residents and as citizens concerned about economic, social and environmental sustainability. This includes Australians as air travellers, as taxpayers and as the economic beneficiaries of international aviation. An important starting point is recognition that our activities in Airservices are aimed at improving the well-being of Australians. In the meantime the statements of mission, vision and culture must be seen as representing the aspirations of the Boare hough we believe that much of it is shared by our staff. During the next twelve months a more genuinely participatory Corporate Plan will be produced - actively involving our staff at all levels, as well as our principal stakeholders. In the short period available, we have necessarily had to adopt a "top down" approach. the Civil Aviation Authority, omitting of course those elements that are now the responsibility of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority. The bulk of this Plan has been adopted from the work of our predecessor. To a lesser extent, we have reviewed the objectives themselves. In its very short life, the Board has concentrated on Airservices Australia's mission, vision and the corporate culture needed to achieve our objectives. The process will be continued vigorously during 1995-96, with a comprehensive new Plan being submitted to the Minister and tabled in the Parliament for the period July 1996 to June 2001. This Plan marks the commencement of that process. Rewriting our Corporate Plan is an essential step in achieving that goal. We aim to set a new standard of excellence in the provision of air services. Management and Board of Airservices Australia have moved decisively to meet the challenge set for them by the Government.
